Beconase is the brand name of the nasal spray beclometasone dipropionate. It is a steroid medication that is also available as inhaler, cream and pills other than nasal spray. When it is supposed to be taken for a long term the inhaler form of this medicine is prescribed. The medicine works by reducing the swelling and inflammation that occur in nose.
Beconase is mostly used for the treatment of allergies that starts from the nose. As it is nasal spray it should be used with much caution not to be sprayed near eyes. If it happens at any instance the person is supposed to rinse his eyes with cold water immediately. The person taking this medication is supposed to stop taking it if he is found to be allergic to any of its active ingredients. It is also used in the treatment of nasal congestion and runny nose.
Dosage and Administration
Since it is a nasal spray the normal recommended dosage is 1 to 2 sprays into each nostril a day. It is strictly not recommended to be taken for oral administration. The person using the spray is supposed to shake the container well before using it every time. The spray can be used only when the nostrils are clear. They can simply blow their nose and make them free to be sprayed. Usually the person using beconase medication is supposed to tilt his head forward so that the spray doesn’t spread out. He is also supposed to breathe out through mouth and spray simultaneously.
Missing a dose and overdosing
If you have missed to take a dose of Beconase, then you need to take it as soon as you remember.
If it is already time for the next dose of Beconase, then you can skip the missed dose and take the current dosage.
You should never take two doses of beconase at once as doing so will not improve your health in any way and instead will only make your health worse. In case of overdose, call for emergency help or poison helpline immediately.
Before getting prescribed for beconase, you have to speak to your doctor if you are allergic to it as this drug comprises of certain inactive ingredients that may cause allergic reactions in the body.
If you have a history of medical illness like glaucoma, cataracts, tuberculosis, nose injury or surgery, ulcer etc. then inform the doctor about the same before getting prescribed for this medicine.
Do not come in contact with people who have been suffering from contagious diseases like measles, flu or chicken pox. Do consult your doctor immediately if you have been exposed to such diseases.
Using corticosteroid for a prolonged period can make it difficult for a person to respond to physical stress. If you are about to have any surgery, any treatment, or if you have been injured seriously, then intimate your consulting doctor that you have been taking beconase or had used it for the past few months. Sudden withdrawal might result in Depression, joint pain, muscle pain.
Side effects generally occur when the medication is not used in the right way. Both the generic and brand version of this med produces the same side effects when not taken properly. Nasal irritation, nausea, headache and sore throat may happen in the initial stage of taking this med but will subside in due course of time. Serious side effects like nosebleed, wheezing or blurred vision should be consulted and treated by a physician immediately.
What drugs interact with beconase?
Before you begin using beconase nasal spray, you should tell your doctor if you are taking any other drugs like prescription meds, over the counter drugs or any herbal products as the effects of these medications can easily interact with the medication.
Do not stop, start or change the dosage of other medicines when you are using this nasal spray without getting consent from your doctor. Do not take any corticosteroids like prednisone as this can increase the risk of side effects when both are taken together. Do not increase or decrease the dosage strengths of the medicine without consulting your doctor.
