Feldene is an anti-inflammation medication that is classified as a NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug). The generic version of this medicine is manufactured in various forms such as tablets, capsules, which are available only upon prescription and a gel which is available without a prescription. It contains 5 % of the active ingredient of the medicine which is piroxicam.

People who suffer from osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis can take the dosage strength either 20 mg once in a day or 10 mg twice in a day.

Feldene tablets must be taken by mouth with a full glass of water. Taking lot of water reduces the possibility of formation of kidney stones. The medicine must not be taken in higher doses than what is recommended for your condition. Higher dose is known be very fatal for many people. Any missed dose must be taken immediately as soon as one recalls forgetting the dose. But if it is almost close to your next interval the medicine can be skipped.

Side Effects

Feldene can cause skin conditions that are severe and exhibit symptoms such as peeling and blistering. It is also known to cause fluctuations in the blood pressure so one must get regular checkups when they are using this medicine.

What drugs interact with Feldene?

Aspirin is one of the main pills that interact with the functioning of this drug. Apart from that cholestyramine, anticoagulants, ACE inhibitors (Angiotensin-converting enzyme), probenecid and bisphosphonates also interact with this medicine. While some of them decrease the efficiency of feldene, there are chances that this medication may reduce the effectiveness of other drugs too. So avoid suffering any side effects and inform your doctor about all the pills that you consume on a daily basis.
