Prinivil is the trade-name for the medication Lisinopril, which is an ACE inhibitor that is primarily employed in the treatment of high blood pressure. ACE inhibitor means angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor and the group of drugs belonging to this category work by relaxing the blood vessels and decreasing the volume of blood that flows in the blood vessels. This in turn decreases the pressure on the heart and demands less oxygen from the heart.
Prinivil is available only with prescription. A prescription gives all the information about suitable dosage strength and dosing period.
Alongside lowering the blood pressure, Prinivil is also helpful in preventing congestive heart failure. Usually the heart is in a weak position soon after any heart surgery or heart attack. In such cases Prinivil helps to improve the survival rate of the heart. As it falls under the ACE category, it exhibits the same contraindications and side effects as other ACE inhibitors. It is also prescribed for the treatment of kidney diseases caused by diabetes.
