Trandane is a prescription medicine which belongs to a group of nonselective beta and alpha adrenergic antagonist. It is manufactured by Prometheus laboratories and was approved by FDA in the year 1984.

The medicine is injected into the vein in case of severe hypertensive situations. It is also available for oral administration in the treatment of hyper tension for a long term. But only small dose of this pill is prescribed because when given in high doses it causes steady drop in blood pressure when the suddenly person stands.

Taking Trandane is effective only when the person takes a proper hygienic diet and maintains his weight alongside by doing exercises.

What is Trandane used for?

Trandane is mainly used in the treatment of malignant hypertension, which is characterized by hypertension with minor impairment of central nervous and cardiovascular system.

The pill is also utilized in the treatment of postoperative hypertension and rebound hypertension (long term medical condition where blood pressure in the arteries is intently elevated) resulted from beta blocker withdrawal.

In particular, Trandane can be used in the treatment of pregnancy induced hypertension that is combined with pre-eclampsia (disorder of pregnancy indicated by high blood pressure and large quantity of protein in urine).

How to take Trandane?

Trandane is available in 100, 200 and 300mg formulations and it can be taken with or without food. Initially 100mg of this pill is prescribed to be taken twice a day. The person can consult a doctor and increase the dosage if no difference has been witnessed in 3 days.

Similarly when it is injected intravenously, 20mg is injected at first which is accompanied by 40 mg every 10minutes to make a total dose of 300mg a day. Trandane medicine should be taken in the way it has been prescribed. An individual should seek medical help if the drug is overdosed.

Side effects of Trandane

Some of the Common side effects that occur in the initial stage of consuming the pill are

  • light headedness,
  • nausea,
  • dyspepsia,
  • nasal congestion,
  • fatigue.

The adverse side effects are

  • sudden change in weight,
  • chest pain,
  • slow heart rate,
  • swelling of lower legs.

If you experience the above mentioned serious side effects then it should be treated by a physician immediately.

Interactions with other drugs

Trandane should not be taken with antidepressants like amitriptyline, imipramine as they will worsen the condition. Also it should not be taken with drugs that are used in the treatment of asthma.

Any drug that is taken by the patient should be informed to the doctor before starting his treatment with this drug.
